DAY ONE: 1
MARANGU
You will be picked from your hotel and then drive from Mombasa (via Taveta or from Nairobi via Namanga to the base Hotel Kibo, Dik Dik, Marangu Hotel, or even Capricorn hotel. Check in and hire the equipment if not carried and meet your guide. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.
DAY TWO:1
MANDERA HUT.
Today you will begin the climb to Mandera Hut (9,070ft.) three to four hours, situated near a volcanic cone. Lunch at this hut and rest in the afternoon. Overnight at the Mandera Hut.
DAY THREE:1
HOROMBO HUT.
Today the route takes you through forests and then open Savannah terrain. Overnight at Horombo Hut (12,335ft/3,670m).
DAY FOUR:1
KIBO HUT.
Continue your ascent walking for approximately 5 miles at a slow pace because of the altitude. The night is spent at the Kibo Hut (15,520 ft/4,730m).
DAY FIVE:1
HOROMBO HUT.
Start the final ascent at around 01.00hrs to Gilmans Point (18,655 ft) which is reached after about 5 hours. You then continue for about another 1 hour to the summit, Uhuru Point (19,340ft/5,595m). Return to Horombo Hut for overnight.
DAY SIX1:
MARANGU HOTEL.
Finally descent via Mandera Hut to your base hotel for dinner and overnight
DAY SEVEN:1
Drive back to either Nairobi via Namanga or Mombasa via Taveta.
End of the safari.
